ABOUT THE JOB

As part of the Underwriting Team at Marathon Health, the Underwriter I plays a crucial role in the quoting and proposal development process for our company. This position will develop pricing proposals and return on investment analyses for a variety of clients & health centers, and work cross-functionally with team members & leaders throughout the organization to put forth competitive proposals that achieve company financial targets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Under the supervision and guidance of senior underwriters, this position will assist in the development of new opportunity sales proposals. 
• For each new prospective client or clinic, this position will help develop a full summary of expected clinic costs.
• With guidance from senior underwriters, this position will estimate likely savings from the clinic for each client.  This savings estimate will be based on a detailed understanding of the client’s health care claims experience and Marathon Health’s ability to make an impact.  The implications of this assessment will be included in presentations to the client.  
• The Underwriter I will need to understand the medical claims history of each client and their performance in key categories relative to norms (primary care, urgent care, emergency rooms, etc.) 
• This position will work collaboratively with finance, sales, and operations to recommend pricing that: achieves targeted levels of contribution margin, considers the client’s forecasted ROI, and is competitive in the marketplace.  

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Math, Actuarial, Economics or related field and a minimum of one year relative experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have strong analytical and quantitative skills and notable experience with Microsoft Excel is required 

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

• Expert communication skills and ability to work effectively cross-functionally with growth, operations, finance, etc. 
• Strong financial modeling experience 
• Knowledge of and experience with health insurance and claims data analyses
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a large volume of email and telephone communication

Pay Range: $55,000 - $70,000/yr

The actual offer may vary dependent upon geographic location and the candidate’s years of experience and/or skill level.
