Job Description Summary
The Strategy and Operations Director, Global Program Management (GPM) and Portfolio Excellence, ensures the Biomedical Research (BR) pipeline is executed, reported and assessed efficiently, transparently and accurately.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Partners with BR stakeholders and GPM-Leadership Team (LT) to define and execute overall BR portfolio reporting needs, partnering with Dev GPM to ensure end-to-end, phase appropriate, reporting business processes. Accountable for tracking and accurately reporting BR Portfolio progress and annual innovation goals.
Drives the development, implementation and maintenance of a core set of drug development performance metrics, analytics and reports that provide insights and drive conversations for better program planning and management to reduce cycle times. Ensures effective business processes are in place to provide high data quality to support accurate portfolio reporting and performance analytics.
Raises the bar for program management discipline ensuring standards across DAs, by driving development, implementation, maintenance and simplification of business processes across-BR GPM and ensuring these are phase appropriate and end-to-end with Dev GPM where appropriate. Inspires GPMs and program teams in critical areas such as strategic project planning, financial forecasting, project execution, risk management, governance, project documentation. Drives process improvements and simplifications.
Partners with the GPM-LT, Dev GPM, and the Enterprise Portfolio Insights (EPI) team Strategy & Growth (S&G) to define governance-related business processes and tools (tollgate templates etc.) and drives their effective implementation in the BR GPM function. Drives consistent practice in Disease Area (DA)-specific governance.
Ensures visibility and effective delivery of strategic initiatives and improvement projects both internally within GPM and externally between GPM and other divisions in support of the OneNovartis vision for best practice program and portfolio management. May lead or participate in one or more of these strategic projects to drive operational improvement, innovation, or transformation.
Sustains the OneProgram and RDC mind-set, connecting BR GPM with Dev and S&G where appropriate.
Acts as a thought partner for the Global Head GPM and Portfolio Excellence
Essential Requirements:
BS Scientific Degree Required
8+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience in a matrix setting.
Extensive experience with pharmaceutical business process development and maintenance applied to global, multi-disciplinary teams
Ability to navigate between big picture and attention to detail
Able to engage and manage diverse stakeholders at any level of an organization, with a hands-on approach to generating buy-in.
Demonstrated ability to influence without authority, Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
Excellent communication and Management Skills, English required (written and spoken).
Strong analytical thinker and strategic problem-solver in ambiguous, complex situations, including technical details
Self-starter and self-motivated, hands-on attitude
Desirable Requirements:
Advanced scientific degree (MS, PhD, PharmD, etc.) desirable
The salary for this position is expected to range between $185,500 and $344,500 per year.
The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.
Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
